In the world of health and wellness, a movement has been gaining momentum: intuitive eating. Intuitive eating is an anti-diet approach that involves trusting and listening to your body’s natural cues to guide your eating habits.

In a completely different world, tarot has seen a shift from structured readings to intuitive readings. Structured tarot readings, of course, stick to the traditional meanings of the cards. Each meaning is specific and distinct. When you have to look up the meaning of the card after every draw, this is the opposite of intuitive readings, which ask you to give your general impressions of what the cards mean in your life.

Inner Wisdom:

Intuitive eating and intuitive tarot reading are both, at heart, about listening to inner wisdom. Intuitive Tarot Readers trust their feelings and intuition to interpret the symbols and messages given by the cards. Similarly, intuitive eating asks people to listen to their body’s signals and cravings, honoring their hunger and satiety cues rather than following a strict diet. Both practices ask practitioners to quiet external noise and focus on the internal wisdom that resides in each person.

Mindfulness

The very process of using intuition requires increased mindfulness and attention to the present moment. The most effective tarot readings come from a meditative state with focused attention to the cards. Intuitive eating also requires mindful attention to the sensory experience of eating and savoring every single bite of food. In fostering mindfulness, both practices encourage individuals to develop a deeper connection between themselves and their actions.

Flexibility

A key principle of both intuitive tarot reading and intuitive eating is the idea of embracing flexibility. Tarot readings always depend on the context of the situation and the spread associated with the reading. Different cards may mean different things when chosen in the spread being used. At the same time, intuitive eating encourages people to be flexible with their food choices to let go of rigid dietary rules. Both practices recognize that life is unpredictable and that being open to change is essential to adaptation and growth.

Empowerment

Both intuitive tarot and intuitive eating create a sense of empowerment. Intuitive Tarot reading takes the power away from the tarot guidebooks and gives it to the reader to interpret the cards. Intuitive eating also takes the power of decision-making away from a book or diet and puts it in the eater’s hands. Both foster a deeper understanding of the practitioner’s relationship with the world and their actions.

Individuality

Individuality is a huge part of both intuitive tarot reading and intuitive eating because these practices promote the idea that there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to any situation. Each reading and each meal are tailored to the individual’s wants and needs. Whether those needs are nutritional or interpretive, the individual must take what they need from the practice and leave the rest. This is done in each case without judgment or comparison.

By listening to inner wisdom, embracing mindfulness and flexibility, and empowering the individual, both intuitive tarot reading and intuitive eating share similar goals and outcomes. In doing this, they both offer pathways to personal growth, healing, health, and transformation.
